CUA hits the road to face No. 23 Yellowjackets
WASHINGTON - The Cardinals look to snap
their three-game losing streak on Saturday as CUA heads on the road
to take on Randolph-Macon. CUA put forth a strong effort last
weekend before falling to Hampden-Sydney by a 35-27 score.
The Cardinals racked up 424 yards of offense led by freshman Mike
Pitsenberger with 186 rushing yards. Randolph-Macon meanwhile
downed Emory & Henry 34-22 on the road to move to 5-0.
The Yellowjackets are ranked 23rd in this week's AFCA DIII
poll.
CUA meets Randolph-Macon for the 32nd time this weekend with the
Yellow Jackets leading the series 17-13-1. RMC has won the
last three meetings, including last year's 31-21 showdown in
Washington, D.C. The Cardinals last win in the series was a 14-7
victory in 2006.
Freshman Mike Pitsenberger seems to get better with each passing
week. Against Hampden-Sydney, Pitsenberger ran for a
season-best 186 yards on 36 carries (5.2 per carry). On the
year Pitsenberger is second in the ODAC with 567 yards and his
113.4 yards per game ranks third.
The Cardinals are currently second in the ODAC in rush defense,
allowing only 95.4 yards per game. CUA has held three of its
five opponents below 100 rushing yards with a season-best of 60
coming vs. Apprentice School.
CUA registered a season best four takeaways against
Hampden-Sydney. Scotty Braswell
intercepted two passes, and Dylan O'Shea
recovered a pair of fumbles. The Cardinals have now totaled
12 takeaways this season and currently sit second in the ODAC at +6
in turnover margin.
Led by Andrew
Ouellette's 28.8 per return average, CUA ranks 27th nationally
in kick return average. Ouellette is 17th in the nation in
average return, with a long of 58 coming at Albright.
