Catholic Associate Vice President and Director of Atheltics Sean Sullivan annoucned the promotion of Bill Bachman to interim head coach on Friday, June 1, 2016. Bachman served as defensive coordinator for the 2015 season prior to coaching the Cardinal tight ends in 2013 and 2014.
Bachman previously served as the Defensive Coordinator at Catholic University in 1991 while attending law school. Between 1985 and 1990, Bachman was an assistant coach at James Madison University where his coaching responsibilities included acting as special teams coordinator for four seasons, coaching the outside linebackers for four seasons and coaching the quarterbacks and receivers for two seasons. During Bachman’s tenure at JMU, the team advanced to the 1AA playoffs.
Bachman began his coaching career at Washburn University, where he coached the outside linebackers in 1983 and 1984. The 1983 Washburn squad won its conference championship.
Bachman is a 1982 graduate of West Chester University (where he played linebacker), as well as a 1995 cum laude graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. Following graduation from law school, Bachman served as a law clerk for Judge Thomas F. Hogan of the United States District Court in Washington D.C. and then spent 19 years in private practice here in Washington D.C. before returning to coaching full time.
