1994

Improvement Ties NCAA Mark

Under new head coach Tom Clark, the football program tied the NCAA Division III record for the best single-season turnaround, improving seven games from 1-9 in 1993 to 8-2. Freshman quarterback Kevin Ricca helped lead the way, completing a school-record 181 passes in 316 attempts for 2,263 yards and 17 touchdowns, while sophomore Matt Taylor set a school record with 1,023 rushing yards, becoming only the season back in the modern era of Catholic University football to rush for more than 1,000 yards.

Catholic came within two minutes of a possible playoff berth before Alfred rallied with two touchdowns in the final 2 minutes, 5 seconds to win the season finale 35-29 at DuFour Field. The Cardinals' rally fell short with an interception in the end zone ending the game, with the gathering shadows putting an end to the program's finest season since the Sun Bowl season of 1939-40.
