Cardinals ranked second in conference preseason poll

WASHINGTON – One year after winning a school record 17 games and its first-ever ECAC championship, CUA has been selected second in the 2011 Landmark Conference poll, which was announced on Monday.  The Cardinals return three All-Conference performers from a year ago, including Mary Swarthout, Tracey Scanlon and Catherine Mirsky.

Defending league champion Juniata was selected atop the poll with 65 points, with CUA (49), Drew (42) and Susquehanna (39) filling out the second through fourth spots.  Scranton with 26 points, Goucher with 16 and Moravian with 15 points round out the poll.

CUA went 17-4 last season, with the 17 wins setting a new school record.  The Cardinals were nationally ranked for eight consecutive weeks and established new school marks in goals scored (77) and shutouts (11).

The Cardinals are currently hard at work in preseason camp.  CUA will begin its 2011 season on Friday, September 2 when it plays host to Washington & Lee inside Cardinal Stadium.  Action gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
