CUA maintains No. 12 ranking in NFHCA Coaches Poll
WASHINGTON – Riding a seven-game win streak, including a
pair of victories last week, CUA maintained its No. 12 ranking in
this week’s Kookaburra/NFHCA Division III Coaches Poll,
announced on Tuesday. The Cardinals are currently 11-1
overall and a perfect 4-0 within the Landmark Conference.
CUA took care of two opponents last week, downing St. Mary’s
1-0 on the road on October 10 before defeating Juniata 4-1 on
October 16. The win over the Eagles was the Cardinals first
since 2008 and propelled them into sole possession of first place
in the Landmark Conference.
The Cardinals were rewarded for their strong play on Monday when
senior Erin Thomas was named the Landmark Conference
Defensive Player of the Week.
CUA is currently ranked in the top-ten nationally in several NCAA
statistical categories, including scoring margin (3), goals against
average (4), penalty corners per game (4), save percentage (5),
scoring average (7), goals per game (7) and shutouts per game
(7). In addition, Meghan Comunale checks in at No. 7 in save
percentage (.844).
CUA plays just once this week, when it welcomes Scranton to
Cardinal Stadium on Friday evening for a 6 p.m. showdown on
Homecoming Weekend.
