Cardinals honored for classroom success
WASHINGTON – The CUA field hockey team has been honored
with the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic
Team Award, it was announced on Monday. In addition, 12
Cardinals were named to the National Academic Squad.
In order to receive a National Academic Team Award, institutions must achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.
To be eligible for the National Academic Squad, student-athletes must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.
The Cardinals who were named to the squad include Katie Bertrand, Alison Dillard, Erica Guenthner, Kristen Harrison, Mary Beth Leo, Rebecca Lukaszczyk, Kaitlin Maloy, Catherine Mirsky, Tracey Scanlon, Cassie Sperruzza, Allison Stevens and Mary Swarthout.
Scanlon and Swarthout were both All-Americans in 2011, and they are four-year members of the National Academic Squad.

CUA went 17-2 this past season, winning its first conference championship and playing in its first NCAA Tournament along the way. The 17 wins are tied for the most in school history and include a first round win over Eastern in the NCAA Tournament.
In addition, Scanlon became the first First Team All-American in program history.
