CUA places program record five on All-Region Teams
WASHINGTON – Following its most successful season in
school history, the CUA field hockey team was rewarded on Wednesday
with five All-Region selections. Tracey Scanlon and Mary
Swarthout received first team accolades, while Maura Campbell,
Colleen Harwood and Kim Hermann were named to the second team.
Scanlon earns her second All-Region nod after finishing with 11
goals, five assists and 27 points. A first team
All-Conference selection, Scanlon scored a season-high three goals
in a win over Gettysburg and added two scores in a victory vs.
Goucher. Scanlon finished her CUA career with 27 goals and
was selected to the NFHCA Senior Game, which will take place on
November 19.
Joining Scanlon on the All-Region Teams for a second straight year
is Swarthout, who scored 11 goals, handed out eight assists and
totaled 30 points. Swarthout led the Cardinals with five
game-winning goals, including the lone score in a 1-0 victory at
St. Mary’s. Like Scanlon, Swarthout was selected for
the Senior Game, and she concludes her Cardinal career with 36
goals.
Campbell started all 19 games for CUA and finished the season with
five goals, three assists and 13 points. A first team
All-Landmark selection, Campbell scored twice in the
Cardinals’ 4-1 win over Juniata in October, which was their
first over the Eagles since 2008.
The 2011 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and a first team
all-conference honoree, Harwood led CUA with 14 goals and 33 points
this season. She scored multiple goals in three games,
including a four-goal performance in a 10-0 victory over
Goucher. Harwood, who is CUA’s first-ever Landmark
Rookie of the Year, scored three game-winners on the season.
Rounding out the Cardinals All-Region selections is Hermann, who
totaled 13 goals and 30 points. A two-time Landmark Rookie of
the Week, Hermann scored twice in the Cardinals’ NCAA
Tournament win over Eastern and she recorded a hat trick in a 6-0
win over Moravian in September. Hermann’s 13 goals this
season came on only 42 shots, 27 of which were on goal.
The five All-Region selections are the most CUA has ever
had. The Cardinals placed three student-athletes on the
All-Region Teams in 2010, 2006 and 2001.
CUA went 17-2 in 2011, which included a perfect 6-0 march through
Landmark Conference play. The Cardinals won their first-ever
Landmark championship and advanced to their first NCAA
Tournament. CUA then defeated Eastern 5-2 in the opening
round of the tournament, before falling to Lynchburg.
