Cardinals ranked 18th in NFHCA preseason poll

WASHINGTON – The 2011 Kookaburra/NFHCA Division III preseason poll was announced on Tuesday and CUA is ranked No. 18 with 135 points.  The Cardinals were nationally ranked for the final eight weeks of last season, topping out at No. 13.

CUA went 17-4 a season ago, setting new school records for wins and shutouts (11).  The Cardinals also scored a program record 77 goals, while limiting opponents to a miniscule 0.95 goals per game.

After relying on a strong group of seniors in 2010, Head Coach Gia Cilizza's squad will be much younger this year, but does return three All-Conference performers in Mary Swarthout, Tracey Scanlon and Catherine Mirsky.

Bowdoin sits atop the preseason poll, followed by Messiah, Ursinus, Salisbury and Lebanon Valley.

CUA begins its 2011 season on Friday, September 2 when the Cardinals welcome Washington & Lee to Cardinal Stadium.  Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
