CUA ranked 14th in this week's coaches poll
WASHINGTON – Despite winning both of its games last week,
the CUA field hockey team dropped one spot in this week’s
Kookaburra/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll to No. 14, it
was announced on Tuesday. The Cardinals, who have won four
straight and sit at 8-1 overall, have been nationally ranked for
the entire 2011 season.
CUA defeated McDaniel and Susquehanna last week to run its win
streak to four. The Cardinals began the week with a 5-0 road
win over the Green Terror on Tuesday and followed that up with a
4-1 victory over Susquehanna on Saturday.
The team was rewarded for its efforts on Monday when Mary
Swarthout and Alison Dillard were named the Landmark
Conference’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week,
respectively. CUA has captured at least one of the
conference’s weekly awards in four out of five weeks.
Salisbury continues to sit atop the national poll with Bowdoin,
Franklin & Marshall, Lynchburg and Skidmore rounding out the
top-five.
CUA plays just once this week, when the Cardinals host Landmark
Conference rival Goucher on Wednesday evening inside Cardinal
Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
