Cardinals move into top-ten in poll for first time
WASHINGTON – Bracing for its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, the CUA field hockey team achieved another first on Tuesday when the Cardinals moved into the top-ten of the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll. The No. 9 ranking marks the highest for CUA in program history.
CUA is in the midst of a 12-game winning streak, which dates back to September 21. The Cardinals won three games last week, defeating Drew twice in the process, including a 5-1 victory in the Landmark Conference championship on November 5.
The Cardinals are 10-0 at home this season and dating back to last year, they have won 16 straight inside Cardinal Stadium.
Bowdoin is this week's number-one team in the poll, followed by Salisbury, which CUA defeated last month, The College of New Jersey, Lynchburg and Skidmore.
The Cardinals will host Eastern on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 inside Cardinal Stadium in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner advances to this weekend's second/third round in Ewing, N.J. on the campus of The College of New Jersey.
