CUA up to No. 10; Swarthout and Scanlon chosen for Senior Game
WASHINGTON – After taking down the nation's number-one ranked team last week, CUA has moved up to No. 10 in this week's Kookaburra/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll, it was announced on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday, Tracey Scanlon and Mary Swarthout were selected to play in this year's NFHCA Senior Game.
CUA defeated Salisbury 2-1 last week to hand the Sea Gulls their first loss of the season. Swarthout netted the Cardinals first score in the 13th minute and Scanlon scored the game-winner with less than three minutes remaining to keep CUA unbeaten at home this season.
The Cardinals are currently in the midst of a ten-game winning streak, which includes a 5-0 shutout of Drew on Monday afternoon. CUA has not lost since September 17 and completed a perfect 6-0 conference season following its win on Monday.
Swarthout and Scanlon will be joined by the top seniors in all of Division III on November 19 at the Senior Game. The contest will take place at Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts beginning at 5 p.m. This mark's the seventh straight year in which at least one Cardinal has been selected for the Senior Game.
Swarthout has scored nine goals and handed out seven assists this season, while Scanlon has added eight goals and three assists.
No. 10 CUA will be back in action on Wednesday evening when the Cardinals welcome Juniata to Cardinal Stadium for a Landmark Conference Tournament semifinal. Start time is set for 5 p.m. Because it is a conference event, anyone coming to watch the game must pay $5 in order to be admitted.
