Cardinals sweep weekly awards following 2-0 week
WASHINGTON – Following a 2-0 week that included a win over the nation's 11th ranked team, the CUA field hockey team was rewarded on Monday by sweeping the Landmark Conference weekly awards. Freshman Kim Hermann earned her second straight Offensive Player of the Week honor, while sophomore Megan Comunale was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Hermann has been on a tear of late, scoring 15 points in her last four games. She found the back of the cage four times in CUA's two wins last week, including a hat trick in the 6-0 conference opening win over Moravian on Sunday. She also accounted for both game-winning goals in the two games and needed only six total shots to score her four goals.
The first year standout currently leads the Landmark Conference in goals (8) and points (19) and has needed only 16 shots to generate those totals.
Comunale meanwhile did not allow a goal in over 100 minutes of action in the cage and was credited with both wins for the Cardinals. She totaled five saves in CUA's 2-0 win over No. 11 Mary Washington and then added three more in the Moravian victory.
In 360 minutes this season Comunale has totaled 30 saves, and posted a goals against average of 1.25 and an .857 save percentage.
The Cardinals play twice this week, first on Tuesday evening at McDaniel beginning at 7 and then on Saturday at home vs. Susquehanna at 1.
