Cardinals sweep conference awards for second straight week

WASHINGTON – For the second straight week the CUA field hockey team swept the Landmark Conference awards, with Mary Swarthout earning Offensive Player of the Week honors and Alison Dillard taking home Defensive accolades.  CUA has won at least one award in four out of five weeks this season.

Swarthout totaled seven points in two wins for CUA last week, scoring three goals and handing out one assist.  The senior began her week with two goals in the Cardinals 5-0 win over McDaniel on Tuesday and she then scored once and dished out an assist in Saturday's 4-1 victory vs. Susquehanna.

For the season Swarthout has scored five goals, handed out three assists and totaled 13 points.  Three of her goals have been game-winners.

Dillard earns the Cardinals second straight Defensive Player of the Week award after Megan Comunale took home the honor last week.  Dillard stopped five shots in 105 minutes of action last week and earned both wins for the Cardinals.  Dillard stopped five shots in the win over McDaniel and then played the first half vs. Susquehanna and did not allow any goals.

Dillard has tallied 11 saves in 245 minutes this year, posting a goals against average of 0.37.

CUA plays just once this week when the No. 13 Cardinals host conference foe Goucher on Wednesday evening inside Cardinal Stadium.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
