CUA sweeps weekly awards after capturing title
WASHINGTON – On the heels of capturing its first
conference championship, CUA was rewarded on Monday when the
Cardinals swept the Landmark Conference weekly awards.
Colleen Harwood was named the Offensive Player of the Week and
Maura Campbell took home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The 2011 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, Harwood earns her
second Offensive Player of the Week nod following a week in which
she led the Cardinals in goals (3), assists (2) and points
(8).
Harwood began her week with a two-goal performance in CUA’s
5-0 win over Drew on October 31. She then assisted on the
first score in the Cardinals 2-1 overtime win against Juniata on
November 2, and she closed out her week with another goal and
assist in CUA’s 5-1 victory over Drew in Saturday’s
conference championship.
Campbell and the CUA defense had a great week, holding three teams
to a total of two goals. On Monday, the Cardinals and
Campbell limited Drew to just two total shots in the game, while on
Wednesday, Juniata was limited to ten shots and a single
goal.
In Saturday’s championship tilt, the CUA defense held Drew
to six total shots and a goal, which did not come until the 57th
minute, by which point the game was well out of reach for the
Rangers. Campbell joined Harwood on this year’s
All-Landmark Conference First Team.
This marks the third time this season that CUA swept the
conference weekly awards.
CUA returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when the Cardinals
play host to Eastern in the first round of the NCAA
Tournament. Start time from inside Cardinal Stadium is set
for 4:30 p.m.
