Cardinals shut out Greyhounds 6-0 in Landmark opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 14 CUA opened the Landmark Conference schedule in a big way with a 6-0 road win at Moravian (5-2) on Sunday.  Freshman Kim Hermann netted a hat trick for the Cardinals (6-1), and Colleen Harwood, Tracey Scanlon and Rebecca Lukaszczyk also added scores.

CUA took control of the game right from the start, unleashing four shots in the opening four minutes, including one from Hermann that found the back of the cage for a 1-0 lead.  Katie Bertrand assisted on the score.

The Cardinals continued to control the action and took the game's next nine shots, but their lead remained at just one.

That changed at the 20:51 mark though when Hermann took a feed from Lukaszczyk and made it 2-0, forcing a timeout by the Greyhounds.

CUA was awarded three penalty corners and got off five more shots in the final 15 minutes of the half, but Moravian was able to keep it a two-goal affair as the teams retired for halftime.

In the second half CUA started to separate itself from Moravian, scoring two goals in the first eight minutes, including one by Hermann and one from Harwood to make it 4-0.

The scoring continued at the 60:46 mark when Lukaszczyk got into the act with her second goal of the season and Scanlon finished things off with her fifth score of the year at the 64:42 mark to put the final margin at six.

CUA was credited with 31 shots on the day, compared to only four by the Greyhounds.  The Cardinals were awarded 14 penalty corners and Moravian was awarded six.

In goal for the Cardinals Megan Comunale continued her strong play, by turning back three shots in 35 minutes of action before giving way to Alison Dillard, who also stopped one shot.  Moravian received 16 saves from Andrea Eck.

The Cardinals will be back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to take on the McDaniel Green Terror.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
