Thomas earns weekly honor from Landmark Conference
WASHINGTON – Fresh off two more wins, including one that vaulted it into sole possession of first place, the CUA field hockey team was rewarded on Monday when senior Erin Thomas was named the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Thomas played a key role in helping the Cardinals shut out St. Mary's and hold Juniata to a single goal last week.
Thomas and the Cardinals "D" shut out St. Mary's last Monday by a 1-0 score on the road. The Cardinals limited the Seahawks to only four shots on the afternoon, including just one in the first half.
On Sunday, Thomas was back at it, this time causing havoc on the defensive side of the field for CUA. The captain spearheaded a defensive effort that limited the No. 20 Eagles to just one goal and seven shots total. From her center back position, Thomas also broke up several Juniata penalty corner chances.
The Landmark Conference has now honored CUA with an award in each of the last six weeks.
Thomas and her teammates will be back in action on Friday evening when No. 12 CUA welcomes Scranton to Cardinal Stadium for a 6 p.m. showdown on Homecoming Weekend.
