11 Cardinals named to SGI/NFHCA National Academic Squad

WASHINGTON – The 2012 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad was announced on Tuesday, and 11 Cardinals were honored. To be eligible for the National Academic Squad, student-athletes must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.

The Cardinals who were named to the squad include Natasha Backman, Katie Bertrand, Maura Campbell, Megan Comunale, Madalyn Dennis, Taylor Elliott, Erica Guenthner, Tarah Portland, Ali Stevens, Emma Warden and Katie Welsh.

On Monday, CUA was honored with a National Academic Team award, awarded to teams with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.

CUA won its second consecutive Landmark Conference championship in 2012, and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season. The Cardinals have now won a championship in each of the last three years, including the 2010 ECAC championships, along with the last two Landmark Conference crowns.

Individually, five Cardinals were named to the All-Conference Teams, two received All-Region recognition and one earned All-Rookie squad laurels.
