CUA earns highest ranking ever in coaches poll, sits at No. 7

WASHINGTON – The CUA field hockey team earned its highest ranking in school history on Tuesday, coming in at No. 7 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll.  The Cardinals, who are off to a 3-0 start, received 503 points and moved up four spots from their No. 11 preseason ranking.

CUA is off to a strong start, having won all three of its games, including the last two by way of shutout.  The Cardinals have captured three weekly awards from the Landmark Conference already, including the Offensive (Colleen Harwood) and Defensive (Megan Comunale) Players of the Week on Monday.

The Cardinals have outscored their opponents by a combined 11-1 total thus far in 2012, and outshot their counterparts 77-25.

The College of New Jersey currently tops the poll with 780 points, followed by Middlebury and Salisbury with 730 points, Messiah with 686, Bowdoin with 582 and Skidmore with 574.

CUA heads to Gettysburg on Tuesday afternoon for a 4:30 p.m. contest. before returning home on Saturday to host Rowan in a 1 p.m. start.
