Cardinals sweep Landmark Conference weekly awards
WASHINGTON – After helping to lead No. 11 CUA to a pair of shutout wins last week, Colleen Harwood and Megan Comunale swept the weekly Landmark Conference Awards on Monday. Harwood was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Comunale picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Harwood netted two goals and handed out an assist in helping to lead CUA past Randolph-Macon and Elizabethtown. The sophomore began her week with a goal and five shots in the Cardinals' 3-0 win over Randolph-Macon on Wednesday, and then added another goal as well as an assist in a 4-0 win vs. Elizabethtown on Saturday.
For the season, Harwood has totaled five points and nine shots, while starting all three games.
While Harwood was handling the offense, Comunale took care of the defense for CUA. The junior goalkeeper sent back 11 shots in the two wins and did not allow any goals.
Comunale stopped five shots vs. Randolph-Macon and then came back with six more saves against Elizabethtown. One of Comunale's saves on Saturday came on a penalty stroke midway through the second half, helping to preserve the Cardinals second straight shutout.
The Cardinals and their pair of award winners hit the road for their next game, when CUA travels to face Gettysburg at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
