Cardinals sweep weekly awards after winning title
WASHINGTON – After winning its
second straight Landmark Conference championship on Sunday, CUA
swept the weekly awards on Monday, with Colleen Harwood earning
Offensive Player of the Week honors and Maura Campbell collecting
defensive accolades. This marks the second time this season
that the Cards swept the awards.
Harwood scored a goal and assisted on another in CUA’s 3-0 semifinal win over Susquehanna on Saturday, and the sophomore then dished out a pair of assists in Sunday’s 3-2 victory against Drew in the championship. Harwood assisted on Kim Hermann’s game-winning goal vs. the Rangers and also set up CUA’s first score.
For the season Harwood has totaled 11 goals, 12 assists and a team-leading 34 points.
Campbell totaled two goals, an assist and five points in the two tournament games, to help the Cardinals capture their second straight title. A classmate of Harwood, Campbell scored the game-winning goal and assisted on another, while helping to hold Susquehanna to a single shot in the semifinals, before tallying the go-ahead goal on Sunday in the title match.
A native of Media, Pa., Campbell has scored six goals, dished out seven assists and registered 19 points this season.
CUA will travel to face Lynchburg on Wednesday evening in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Start time is set for 5 p.m. The Cardinals reached the second round of the tournament last season.
