CUA ranked No. 6 in region, hosts conference tournament this weekend
WASHINGTON – The NCAA released its regional rankings on Wednesday and CUA checks in at No. 6 in the South Atlantic. The Cardinals are currently 10-7 overall and 5-1 in the Landmark Conference. CUA will host the conference tournament this weekend inside Cardinal Stadium as it looks to defend its title from last season.
CUA was last in action on October 26 when the Cardinals downed Drew 4-2 on Senior Day. Kim Hermann scored a pair of goals and Megan Comunale stopped nine shots in the cage to help lift CUA to its 10th win of 2012.
The Cardinals enter the tournament averaging 3.24 goals per game, having outshot their opponents by a 425-206 margin. CUA leads the Landmark Conference in scoring margin, scoring average, goals, shots, and goals against average.
CUA averaged over four goals per game against conference foes, scoring multiple goals in every Landmark game, but one. The Cardinals are led offensively by Colleen Harwood (10 goals, 29 points), Hayley Wright (11 goals, 27 points), and Taylor Elliott (7 goals, 19 points), with 12 CUA players having scored at least one goal.
Senior captain Catherine Mirsky leads the Cards with two defensive saves, while Comunale enters the postseason with 94 saves in 1224 minutes of action.
CUA is 5-4 all-time in the conference tournament, having reached the championship four times. The Cardinals won their first conference title last year and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
