WASHINGTON – Catholic University forward Taylor Elliott commenced her sophomore season demonstratively, as she tallied her first goal of the 2013 season in the Cardinal's home-opening 1-0 victory over the Shorewomen of Washington College at the CUA Stadium on Friday, Aug. 30.
"Tonight was a really hard fought game," said CUA Head Field Hockey Coach Gia Cillizza. "They (Washington College) were really good; we generated numerous attacks and attack support, but they kept sending it back."
Elliott scored at the 26:01 mark in first half off an assist by fellow classmate Hayley Wright.
"It was a great play, Elliott accelerated into position and received a great send from Wright," said Cillizza.
CUA ended the contest with 12 corners and 14 shots over two periods of play. Senior Megan Comunale maintained the goal for a complete 70 minutes of action, where she finished with two saves.
"Heading into Saturday's game at Elizabethtown, we will focus on finishing, getting the ball up the field and our corners," said Cillizza.
The Cards embark on their first road game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1:00p.m. at Elizabethtown.
