WASHINGTON – It was a heartbreaking night for the Catholic University field hockey team, as No. 8 Mary Washington defeated No. 13 Catholic 1-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at Cardinal Stadium in Washington, D.C.
UMW's Jenna Steele snuck the ball past a group of Cardinal defenders and Landmark Player of the Week Megan Comunale for the only goal of the contest.
CUA made numerous attempts to get on the board, tallying 19 shots in the contest and gathering nine penalty corners. Despite their best effort, the Eagles' goalkeeper accumulated 15 saves.
Over the course of 70 minutes of play, UMW notched five shots and four penalty corners.
The mighty black and red returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 28 for the first Landmark Conference contest of the season at Drew.
