Cardinals Set to Defend Title With Home Advantage After Shutout of Juniata

WASHINGTON – The No. 20 (NFHCA) and No. 6 (NCAA Region) Cardinals will compete for their third consecutive Landmark Conference championship after the birds soared above the Eagles of Juniata in a 1-0 shutout in Landmark semifinal action on Wednesday.

CUA jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 13-minute mark and maintained offensive possession for most of the contest.  Taylor Elliott scored the single goal of the competition, Taylor finished off the tip from Rebecca Lukaszczyk off of Colleen Harwood's shot that hit the goalkeeper's pads.  JC ruffled the Cards' feathers in the second half on two consecutive penalty corners, but the CUA defense remained intact leaving Juniata without a single shot in the contest.

In statistical comparison, CUA finished 13-0 in shots per period and 12-2 in penalty corners.

Megan Comunale, who has been invited to participate in the Front Rush/NFHCA senior game on November 23, was barely tested in the victory.

CUA now moves into Saturday's championship, where the Cardinals play host to Scranton, who upset 18th ranked Drew on Wednesday.  The Royals will be making their first championship game appearance since losing to Drew University in the Freedom Conference tournament in 2004, 3-2.

Scranton, who is on a two-game win streak, defeated the Cardinals 1-0 on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Live stats and a live video stream will be available for the championship contest on Saturday.
