WASHINGTON – No. 17 Catholic's Maura Campbell secured the win in Wednesday's NCAA first round against No. 15 Messiah, closing out the corner penalty at the top of the arc for a final score of 2-1.
After entering the second half scoreless on both sides, Messiah's Brooke Sands drove to the goal pulling CUA's Megan Comunale out of the cage to leave Moriah Pfautz wide open to score a goal.
Neither team was able to close out the contest in regulation play, sending the game into overtime.
In a matter of three minutes, the Cards won the battle of the birds defeating the Falcons 2-0 to face No. 19 DePauw (17-4) on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Christopher News in Newport News, Va.
