Catholic Receiving Votes in National Top-20 Poll

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America field hockey team was recognized by the nation's coaches as they were one 25 teams in the Penn Monto / National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Preseason Poll. The Cardinals received 68 points, 24th-best in the country.

Catholic, which was recently tabbed No. 1 in the Landmark Conference Preseason Poll, will be tested early and often this season as seven of the Cards' nine nonconference games feature opponents receiving votes in the national poll.

The Cardinals open the season at home this Saturday, September 2 at 2 p.m., against No. 6 The College of New Jersey.

Catholic will host No. 1 Messiah (9/20), No. 3 Salisbury (10/4) and No. 7 Ursinus. Road matchups include (RV) Rowan (9/9), (RV) Christopher Newport (9/13), (R/V) Mary Washington and (9/26).

The Cards are led by 2016 All-American, senior back Kelly Cousoulis. The Landmark Defensive Player of the Year a season ago, Cousoulis is one of four All-Landmark players on the roster: junior Lane Adams, and seniors Rachel Day and Marisa Martinelli.

Head Coach Heidi Lewis turns the cage over to senior Sophia Hamilton in 2017 and welcomes five freshmen to a roster that returns all but three players.
