Catholic Defeats Misericordia, 4-1

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America field hockey team earned its fourth-straight victory on Friday night at Cardinal Stadium as the Cards defeated Misericordia, 4-1.

Catholic controlled much of the game as they outshot the Cougars, 24-1 and totaled nine penalty corners while holding Misericordia without one.

Senior Marisa Martinelli scored the first goal of the contest and the gamewinner as she scored from the top of the off the penalty corner from sophomore Kady Owen just nine minutes into the game.

Junior Molly Crowley got her first goal of the season just five minutes before the half as she collected a rebound in front of the Cougar cage and buried it for a 2-0 Catholic advantage at the intermission.

Misericordia got one back in the 43rd minute but just five minutes later, senior Rachel Day fed one in front for sophomore Katie Anderson who blasted it home from four yards out.

Less than 10 minutes later the duo did it again as Day passed one across goalkeeper's face and Anderson one-timed it home for her team-high fifth goal of the season.

Catholic, which has outscored its opponents 12-4 over the past four games, will take the momentum of its win streak against No. 1 Messiah next week on Faculty Appreciation night. The two teams will show down at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, September 20, at Cardinal Stadium.
