WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America field hockey team posted its sixth-straight win and third shutout of the year with a 4-0 victory at Goucher on Wednesday night. The Cardinals now improve to 10-2 and 4-0 in Landmark Conference play.
Sophomore Katie Anderson netted the gamewinner and the first of her two goals on the night while the Catholic defense held the Gophers to just five shots and only one on goal.
Anderson scored the clinching goal five minutes into the game as she finished the feed from reigning Landmark Defensive Athlete of the Week, senior Marisa Martinelli.
Sophomore Alexa Guittari scored unassisted in the 27th minute for a 2-0 Catholic lead at the half.
Anderson made it two scores just 29 seconds into the second as she was set up by rookie Meghan Shallow.
Fellow freshman Grace Olson also made her mark as she scored on her own in the 46th and made it 4-0 Cards.
Catholic outshot Goucher, 26-5, and toted 13 penalty corners to the Gophers' two.
The Cardinals will look to keep their momentum going this weekend at Moravian on Saturday.
