WASHINGTON - Catholic University added to its winning streak with a 2-0 victory against the Frostburg State Bobcats on Wednesday afternoon. The non-conference matchup featured first-half goals from senior Maggie Mahoney (Gaithersburg, Md./Stone Ridge), and freshman Rebecca Clark (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough).
Catholic (12-1, 3-1 CAC) provided strong defense from the start of the game with big plays coming from junior Sondra Pires (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) and senior Andi Snyder (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Sacred Heart). The Cardinals' first goal from Mahoney came unassisted at 32:47. With continued zone coverage coming from both teams, Catholic battled against the Bobcats (4-7) to score one more before halftime at 12:01 by Clark, with the assist coming from Tricia Hines (Churchville, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy).
Strong goaltending from both teams provided a tug-of-war during the second half from end-line to end-line. The Cardinals' Katie Iannacone (Havertown, Pa./Villa Maria) made eight saves facing 14 shots.
The Cardinals return to action this Saturday, Oct. 13, facing off against the Gators of Notre Dame (Md.) College. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
