Cardinals take OT loss in CAC semis Oct. 25, 2001

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Mary Washington's Jessica Morris scored three times, including the game-winner 3:59 into the first overtime to down Catholic, 4-3, in a CAC semifinal contest. The Cardinals were the No. 4 seed while the Eagles were the top seed in the tournament. Mary Washington is ranked No. 8 in the latest NFHCA Top 20, while Catholic is No. 15.

The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the game but Catholic managed to cut the deficit in half as junior Sondra Pires (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) scored on a penalty stroke at 25:13.

Morris would score her second goal 1:49 into the second half and seemingly put CUA in a insurmountable hole, but the Cardinals rallied late in the half as junior Steph Roselle (Tinton Falls, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) scored an unassisted tally at the 56:50 mark and Pires would connect again in a penalty stroke with under 10 minutes remaining.

In the overtime, Morris would score her 23rd goal of the season to put MWC in the CAC finals against Salisbury, which beat York 8-0 in the other semifinal, on Saturday.

Junior goalie Katie Iannacone (Havertown, Pa./Villa Maria) made 3 saves while the Eagles' Meredith McDonald recorded one save.
