Catholic 3, St. Mary's 1 Sept. 9, 2002

WASHINGTON - Junior Danielle Deon (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Twp.) had a goal and an assist to lead Catholic past St. Mary's, 3-1, in a Capital Athletic Conference contest.

St. Mary's (1-3, 0-1 CAC) took a 1-0 lead 12 minutes in the game as Sarah Hill got one past CUA keeper Katie Iannacone (Havertown, Pa./Villa Maria), but that was all the Seahawks could do on offense as Catholic kept the majority of play in the SMC zone.

Freshman Jamie Punyko (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) got the Cardinals (3-0, 1-0 CAC) on the board with her second tally of the year at the 59:01 mark of the second with an assist from Deon.

Deon would make it 2-1 as she buried home a penalty stroke past SMC keeper Whitney Fahrman.

After a SMC timeout and a goalie change, sophomore Rebecca Clark (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) put the game out of reach as she scored her third goal of the season in the 66th minute.

Iannacone finished with five saves while Fahrman and teammate Megan Lehr combined to make 11 saves.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday as they host Gwynedd Mercy at noon.
