WASHINGTON --- Senior Stephanie Roselle (Tinton Falls, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) scored 9:05 into the first overtime to help Catholic break a season-high three game losing streak as the Cardinals defeated Frostburg State, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game.
After a scoreless first half, Catholic (4-6) took a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute as sophomore Melissa Schneider (Haddonfield, N.J./Paul VI) took a cross from Jamie Punyko (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and buried her third goal of the season.
But the Bobcats (4-9) answered nine minutes later as Tawni Buck setup Kim Dean to tie the game at 1-1.
In the 7-on-7 overtime period, a Roselle breakaway was thwarted by FSU goalie Kristin Cousin but CUA keeper Erin Swift (Middletown, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) answered with her own save on a breakaway minutes later.
Swift finished with 14 saves, while Cousin recorded eight.
It was Roselle's third game-winning goal of the season and her team-leading seventh on the year.
Catholic returns to action this week on Thursday, October 16th as they play at York College in a CAC game at 4:30 p.m.
