CUA FIELD HOCKEY IMPROVES TO 7-1 WITH WIN OVER CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 25, 2005) -- Jamie Punyko scored the go-ahead goal at the 38th minute and CUA held off a late Christopher Newport University rally to give the Cardinals their seventh win of the season.

CUA (7-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Michele Repass scored in the first minute of the game off a penalty corner. The Cardinals outshot Newport 13-6 for the game.

Christopher Newport tied the game at the 23rd minute when Annie Gehring fired a shot past CUA keeper Irene Jorden.

In the second half, CUA ended any hope of a Newport comeback when Punyko took a pass from Katie McCarthy and slipped a shot past CNU keeper Hannah Brown for the eventual game-winner.

The Cardinals have won six straight games and will look to extend their winning streak against CAC foe Mary Washington on Tuesday. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
