CUA EDGED 2-1 BY #1 SALISBURY IN FINAL MINUTES

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 5, 2005) -- On the verge of an upset, the 15th-ranked CUA Cardinals gave up two goals to Salisbury in the final two minutes as the Sea Gulls rallied to win, 2-1 in a hard-fought CAC game.

CUA (9-2, 3-1 CAC) received a break in the first half. With 17:47 remaining, Kyle Keating's shot was deflected, but Erin Kelly banged the rebound into the net for a 1-0 Cardinals lead. The CUA defense held Salisbury to no shots in the first half.

In the second half, the action was furious as neither team seemed to gain an advantage. With 2:37 remaining in the game, Salisbury evened the score at 1-1 and looked to force overtime. Salisbury had six penalty corners in the game, the last providing the game-winning goal by Brittany Elliott with 1:23 remaining.

Irene Jorden took the loss in goal as Salisbury had a slight edge in shots, 5-4.

CUA travels to McDaniel this Saturday for a non-conference match at 12:00 p.m.
