Cardinals Soar Past Yellowjackets
Michele Repass scores three goals for the game
WASHINGTON - A quick start by Michele Repass (Poolesville,
Md./Poolesville) was the key for #19 CUA field hockey Sunday
afternoon at DuFour Field. The senior had three goals in the
Cardinals' 4-1 win over Randolph Macon (4-7) which improves them to
5-4 on the season.
Repass went on a tear early in the game, scoring the first two CUA goals in the first seven minutes. To make it 1-0, Repass took the ball from a defender dangerously close to the goal and slid it past keeper Ashley Crouch. Her second score of the afternoon was off of a run on the right side. Repass dribbled down and fired on Crouch who deflected the ball off of the tip of her pads into the cage.
After giving the Yellowjackets some opportunities, Repass continued to overpower the Randolph-Macon defense with another goal at 27:29. Senior Kelly Davies (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) hit a cross from the right side into Repass who was able to tap it in making the score 3-0.
Unfortunately, the RMC offense came right back down and answered with a score by Lindsay Walker off of keeper Marian Cassilly's pads to make it 3-1. This would be the score going into the break.
The second half was a defensive battle as both teams had chances to score but couldn't find the cage. With just thirty seconds remaining Ro Dixon (Ardmore, Pa./Country Day Sacred Heart) was pushed from behind right next to the goal. This resulted in Jayme Dinsmore (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) converting a penalty shot to make the final 4-1.
The Card outshot the Yellowjackets 9-8 but RMC had six shots on goal to CUA's five. The Yellowjackets also held a large advantage in penalty corners 7-3. Cassilly ended the day with five saves.
The Cards now gear up for a big CAC matchup with #2 Salisbury on Wednesday in Salisbury, Md., beginning at 4:30 p.m.
