Walko Scores Two in Win Over Villa
Cillizza is CUA's winningest field hockey coach
OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Freshman Carley Walko (Freehold, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) scored two goals in the Cardinals (8-6) 2-0 win over the Villa Julie Mustangs (4-9) Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals dominated the offensive play as they have been doing all season outshooting the Mustangs 27-2. The win was also significant for head coach Gia Cillizza who became CUA's all-time winningest field hockey coach with the team's win over York last week.
Walko scored in the opening minutes to make it 1-0 at 1:17. The midfielder took a pass from Jayme Dinsmore (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) and slid the ball past keeper Kaitlin Brzozowski to go up early in the game.
The freshman struck again taking a similar pass from Dinsmore at 21:50. This score would eventually be the final as the Cardinals couldn't find the back of the cage for the remainder of the game and the Mustangs were unable to get a shot off.
CUA held the advantage in penalty corners 9-1 and shots 27-2 to totally dominate the game. Goalkeeper Marian Cassilly (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had one save while Brzozowski had six for Villa Julie.
Catholic University will host two home games next weekend to close out the conference season. The team will play St. Mary's on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., and Wooster at 11:00 a.m., on Sunday. The 22nd will also be senior day for the class of 2007 as they play in their final regular season home game of the year.
