Cardinals Topple Fighting Scots 2-0
Jayme Dinsmore scores a goal on Senior Day
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University field hockey squad (10-6) took down the College of Wooster Fighting Scots (12-5) Sunday morning at DuFour Field in their last regular season home contest of the fall. On senior day, Jayme Dinsmore (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) connected for the second goal of the game.
CUA dominated both halves of the game not allowing Wooster any control offensively. With the Cards overpowering the Scot defense, Michele Repass (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) took advantage on a penalty corner. The junior received the ball on the edge of the circle and weaved her way through numerous defenders to hit the goal dead on past keeper Anne Leigh.
In the second half, the Cards struck again off of a broken play. After a shot and save by Leigh, the ball bounced to Dinsmore who was able to pound it right back into the left corner to make the score 2-0. The Scots had a few opportunities near the end of the game but keeper Betsy Homan (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu) stayed on her game and came up with three big saves to make the final 2-0.
CUA outshot Wooster 13-3 and was awarded six penalty corners to the Scots' three. Marian Cassilly (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) got the win despite facing no shots in the first half. Leigh had 11 saves on the day.
CUA will face Frostburg State on Thursday at 4:00 p.m., for its last game before the CAC Tournament. The contest is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
