#20 Cards Fall to #7 Ursinus
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 17, 2006) - CUA field hockey (4-1, 1-0 CAC), the 20th ranked team in the country, dropped a game to the #7 Ursinus Bears (5-1) Sunday afternoon in Collegeville, Pa. This was the first loss for the Cardinals who had beaten #13 Gettysburg earlier in the week.
The Bears overpowered the Cardinals as they scored two goals in the first 35. This marked just the second time this season that CUA was down at the half.
A quick goal by Lindsay Cappa thirty seconds into the second had the Cardinals looking at a three-score deficit. Even after a switch in the cage, the Bears were able to get two more before the final whistle making the score 5-0.
The Bears had 21 shots and fourteen penalty corners while the Cardinals could only muster three shots and a lone corner. Ursinus keeper Jess Lamina had three saves for the Bears. Starting CUA goalkeeper Betsy Homan had ten saves and Marian Cassilly added five.
The Cards are on the road this weekend at Washington and Lee. The team will battle the Generals on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m., and then play John's Hopkins on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
