WASHINGTON - The Catholic University field hockey squad (5-5, 2-0 Landmark) defeated the Goucher College Gophers (1-6, 1-2 Landmark) 5-0 Wednesday evening at Cardinal Stadium. CUA used an explosive offensive attack to get the victory and improve to 2-0 in the Landmark Conference.
Michele Repass (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) scored early in the game when she found the ball in the goal after it bounced off of the keeper's pads to make it 1-0. At the break the Cards were looking at a 2-0 lead.
In the second half Erin Kelly (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) took the ball through the middle of the Goucher defense for an unassisted tally at 44:22. The remainder of the game belonged to freshman Abby Banholzer (Hartland, Wis./Trinity Academy) who connected on a penalty stroke at 62:34 and then hit a long shot from the right edge of the circle past keeper Aline Haddad to make the final 5-0.
