Bullets Fly Past Cards 2-1
Late goal too much for CUA
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University field hockey squad (1-3) narrowly lost to the Gettysburg College Bullets (3-1) Tuesday afternoon at Cardinal Stadium. The Bullets managed to find the back of the cage with three minutes remaining to down CUA 2-1. With the loss the Cards drop to 1-3 on the season.
The game was a defensive battle but CUA had its chances. The Cardinals outshot the Bullets 12-9 but only posted four shots on goal while GC had just two. Ro Dixon (Ardmore, Pa./Country Day Sacred Heart) scores CUA's lone goal second half after receiving a pass across the middle from Caroline Reilly (Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy) to make it 1-0.
Unfortunately that would be it for CUA who held Gettysburg to just three shots in the second half but also allowed two goals. Cristi Farrell connected on the first at 52:34 and after keeping it knotted at one for much of the game Emily Harwood scored the winner at 66:29.
Irene Jorden (Riva, Md./South River) took the loss in goal for the Cards while Katherine Corkhill had the win for Gettysburg with three saves. The Cardinals not only outshot GC but also had 15 penalty corners to their eight.
CUA will travel to #9 Christopher Newport on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
