Seahawks Blank Cards 3-0
Scoring woes continue for CUA
ST. MARY'S, Md. - The Catholic University field hockey team (1-5) continued to struggle finding the back of the cage Wednesday evening in a 3-0 loss to the St. Mary's Seahawks (5-1). With ten shots the Cards had their chances but once again couldn't connect to fall to 1-5 on the season.
Ali Femi scored her fifth goal of the season at 23:18 putting her own rebound right back past keeper Marian Cassilly (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding). This made it 1-0 at the break but that wouldn't last long as the teams headed into the second half.
At 32:27 in the second, Femi did it again getting the ball off of a CUA deflection and capitalizing on the opportunity to make the score 2-0. Keeping the Ali theme alive, freshman Allie Skiest hit her first intercollegiate goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game to make the final 3-0.
The Seahawks outshot the Cards 16-10 and both teams were awarded nine penalty corners. Cassilly was credited with the loss despite eight saves while Emily Richards had the win for St. Mary's with four stops.
CUA will travel to McDaniel on Sunday for a contest against the Green Terror beginning at 1 p.m.
