Cards Snap Streak with 3-1 Victory
Repass goes the distance for game winner
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Catholic University field hockey (2-5) got back on track Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over the McDaniel Green Terror (3-5). The win snapped CUA's five game losing streak after playing a brutal schedule filled with ranked opponents and NCAA qualifiers.
After 20 scoreless minutes, Emily Sencindiver (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) put CUA up 1-0 with a goal off of a penalty corner from the top right part of the arc. The Cards went into the break up one but midway through the second half, both teams heated up.
At 41:52, the Green Terror tied it up when Amanda Pickard found the rebound off of a miss near the left post and evened the score at one. Seven minutes later, Michele Repass (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) got a breakaway and went the length of the field to score after getting on the field as a substitute. This goal would prove to be the game winner. At 65:02 Meredith Reape (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria) added one more for good measure to make the final 3-1.
The teams played evenly with CUA hold a one shot edge on McDaniel. The Green Terror was awarded eight penalty corners to Catholic University's seven. Marian Cassilly (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) got the win for CUA in the cage with eight saves and Erika Wawzyanick received the loss despite seven saves.
The Cards will host Mary Washington on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., at Cardinal Stadium.
