CUA Upends #15 Juniata 4-1
Kelly has two goals in the game
HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Catholic University field hockey squad (4-5, 1-0 Landmark) stunned the #15 Juniata Eagles Saturday afternoon (8-2, 1-1 Landmark) beating the team 4-1 and getting its first win in the Landmark Conference. Julie Ehrmann (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) posted four defensive saves to help CUA to its first victory over a ranked squad this season.
Erin Kelly scored early for the Cards with an unassisted goal at 5:51. Despite going up 1-0 the game was one-sided in Juniata's favor as the Eagles outshot the Cards 14-3 in the first half. However, Kelly managed to score one more CUA before the break taking the pass from Michele Repass at 21:00 to make the score 2-0.
Early in the second, Repass found another shooter open as Ro Dixon hit the back of the cage at 40:02 to give the Cards a three-goal lead. Just a minute later Kim Wagner managed one for Juniata but it wouldn't be enough of a spark as Repass added on goal of her own at 43:14 to make the final 4-1.
CUA was outshot 21-9 and took just three penalty corners to Juniata's 12. Marian Cassily had six saves for the game as well as the win while Abby Funk took loss and posted two saves. Defensively the Cards were strong with Ehrmann's four defensive saves and Carley Walko making it five for the squad.
The Cardinals will face Goucher on Wednesday at 4:30 at Cardinal Stadium in a Landmark Conference game.
