WASHINGTON - The Catholic University field hockey squad (1-1) had a tough task laid out Monday afternoon as the team faced the #10 Rowan University Profs (1-1).  Unfortunately despite a one-goal deficit at half the Cards couldn't hold on and fell 3-0 dropping to 1-1 on the season.

The Cards had some good looks to open the game but it was Rowan who found the back of the cage first scoring at 12:35. Amanda Green sliced into the middle of the circle from the left side and slid it past keeper Marian Cassilly (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) to make it 1-0.  The CUA defense was able to hold Rowan scoreless for the remainder of the half and went into the break looking at a one-goal deficit.  In the first the Cards were outshot 13-2 and saw a disparity in penalty corners 7-1.  Cassilly notched six saves in the first 35 minutes.

The Cardinal defense stayed strong for most of the second half but two small lapses proved too much.  At 52:22 Danielle Miranda had a rebound come right to her stick as she hit it back past Cassilly.  Six minutes later Kimberly Brozosky dribbled into the circle from the right side off of a penalty corner and found the cage to make the score and the final 3-0.

The Cards spent a majority of the game on defense as they were outshot 26-7 and took just three penalty corners to Rowan's 14.  In goal Cassilly had a solid game with 15 saves despite being credited with the loss.  Rowan keeper Amanda Cucinotti had four saves and received the win.  Carley Walko (Freehold, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) and Molly Mulrain (Brigatine, N.J./Merion Mercy) also had good games on defense which each tallying a defensive save.

CUA will have the week off before facing Washington & Lee next Saturday at 5:30 p.m., at Cardinal Stadium.
