Washington, D.C.-Fourteen shots and four goals lifted CUA's field hockey team to a 4-0 shutout Wednesday. Liz McCormick (Broomhall, Pa./ Country Day Sacred Heart) notched the first goal of the game in the 41st minute and proved to be all the Cardinals would need.
However, the offensive attack was far from over. Shots were few and far between in the first half with CUA having the slight advantage, 3-2. In the second half it was another story. CUA outshot the visiting Seahawks 11-4 including three more that found the back of the net.
Tracey Scanlon (North Wales, Pa./ Gwynedd Mercy), and Abby Banholzer (Hartland, Wis./ Trinity Academy) scored the second and third goals of the game, but the strongest performance on the field today was from Ro Dixon (Ardmore, Pa./ Country Day Sacred Heart) who added a goal in the 67th minute after recording the assist on McCormick's goal, and grabbing a defensive save in the 65th minute.
Marian Cassilly (Gambrills, Md./ Archbishop Spalding) recorded a three-save shutout after facing only six shots for the game. Nine different CUA players recorded shots, with five of them recording at least two shots.
CUA will return to action on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. as the Cardinals will open their Landmark Conference schedule welcoming Juniata to Cardinal Stadium.
