Field Hockey Earns Decisive Win Over York

WASHINGTON- CUA's tenacious defensive efforts coupled with stellar offensive chemistry proved to be too much for York College to handle, as the Cards shut out the Spartans 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. The team improves their record to 8-4 overall.

Senior Kelly Burke (Glendora, N.J./ Bishop Eustace) scored her first goal of the season at the 28 minute mark of the first half. Burke found her way past the York defense and blasted the ball past the goal keeper, giving CUA the 1-0 advantage.

Burke's goal stood alone for the remainder of the period, but the Cards were not finished just yet. Back-to-back goals by freshman midfielder Mary Swarthout (Rockville, Md./ Our Lady of Good Counsel) gave CUA a comfortable 3-0 lead midway through the second half.

Cardinal forward Tory Gagliardi then put an exclamation point on the game, scoring off of a penalty corner at the very last second.

The field hockey squad returns to the field for a Landmark Conference match up against Drew at 1 p.m., on Saturday, October 18.
