Field Hockey Takes Game to Overtime but Falls Just Sort
October 23, 2008
WASHINGTON-- In a back and forth battle, the Cardinals of CUA fell just short to No. 11 ranked Rowan University, 3-2 in overtime.
Led by both offense and defense by Ro Dixon (Ardmore, Pa./Country Day Sacred Heart) the Cardinals took 13 shots, but allowed 17 for the visiting Profs. Emily Sencindiver (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) recorded two defensive saves while Marian Cassilly (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had one of her busiest days in net for the Cardinals, recording 10 saves.
Meredith Chandler (Tiburon, Calif./St. Ignatius) opened the scoring in the 35th minute after an exciting first half that featured many chances but few shots on net.
Ro Dixon added a tally early in the second half on a penalty corner on a pass from Tory Gagliardi (Pilesgrove, N.J./Archmere) to give the Cardinals a two goal lead.
The No. 11 ranked Rowan team did not slow down and kept their offensive attack going throughout the second half. Unleashing 10 shots in the half the Profs found the net twice, in the 51st and 54th minutes.
Both teams exchanged chances over1 the final minutes of the game, but at the end of regulation a winner couldn't be determined.
In the extra session the Cardinals looked strong early, but allowed Amanda Greene to find the ball in front of the CUA net and record the game winner for Rowan.
CUA will return to action Saturday, Oct. 25th at 1 p.m. as the Cardinals will welcome Moravian to Cardinal Stadium for the final Landmark Conference game of the season to be played at home.
