Field Hockey Falls to Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md. - The Catholic University of America field hockey team dropped a heartbreaker Wednesday night at Sea Gull Stadium with a 1-0 loss to No. 9 Salisbury in a non-conference game.
Salisbury (13-3) and Catholic (10-6) battled for over 63 minutes before the Sea Gulls broke through in the 64th minute with the lone goal of the night. Beverly Beladino redirected a pass from Courtney Webster off a penalty corner to place the Sea Gulls on the board with six minutes left in the game.
The Gulls outshot the Cardinals, 11-3, and also held a 9-4 edge in penalty corners. Michelle Rowe blasted a shot in the 25th minute that beat Catholic goalie Marian Cassilly (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding), but was blocked at the last moment by midfielder Caroline Reilly (Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy), who dove in front of the cage. In the second half, Cardinal back Emily Sencindiver (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) made another defensive save at the 57:50 mark.
Cassilly recorded four saves in the loss. The Cardinals will travel to Susquehanna on November 1st for their final regular season contest a 1 p.m.
