Strong Defensive Effort Gives Field Hockey 1-0 Win

October 4, 2008

WASHINGTON- Out-shooting their opponents 20-2 and hitting the target ten times, including a blast in the 61st minute by Ro Dixon (Ardmore, Pa./Country Day Sacred Heart) that found the back of the net, gave the Cardinals their fifth win of the season and opened the 2008 Landmark Conference schedule with a dominating win.

Fourtee penalty corners, including the one taken by Dixon that set up her goal, helped the Cardinals keep the ball in their opponents end of the field and kept the momentum on their side.

Marian Cassilly (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had a relatively light day making two saves on two shots however the credit goes to her defensive players who kept the ball clear of the circle for the majority of the game.

CUA returns to action on the road Wednesday, October 8 at Goucher, and then continues on the road with a trip to Scranton on Saturday, October 11.
