Third-Straight Shutout for Field Hockey

Third-Straight Shutout for Field Hockey

October 8, 2008

WASHINGTON- The defense was solid, but this time the offense unleashed a strong attack, as the Cardinals outshot Goucher 21-6, and scored twice in the first half.

Marian Cassilly (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) needed only three saves to earn her third-straight shutout, as the Cardinals held Goucher to only six shots for the game, and only one in the second half.

Tracey Scanlon (North Wales, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy) found the net early and often, scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes of play.  Her first goal was assisted by Liz McCormick (Broomhall, Pa./Country Day Sacred Heart) before McCormick added her own tally in the second half.

Meredith Chandler (Tiburon, Calif./St. Ignatius) and Ro Dixon (Ardmore, Pa./Country Day Sacred Heart) both added goals late in the second half.

CUA is now 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the Landmark.  The Cardinals will return to action Saturday on the road at Scranton before returning to Cardinal Stadium, Sunday for a 1 p.m. game against York (Pa.) College.
